Are you ready for a fresh start?
It’s February at last and it feels as if we have properly landed in 2021.
Imbolc, the Celtic New Year equivalent, is celebrated on 1st February, and the main themes are new beginnings, new shoots emerging from underground, a sense of hope. Signs of Spring are showing with green shoots appearing on trees and in my garden.
The pandemic has highlighted the need for us to prioritise our physical health, but also our mental health – it’s ok to admit it if you are struggling. Everyone has been affected in some way. We have all been stopped in our tracks and have had to look around ourselves and reach out to others. Community has been one of the silver linings of the pandemic, so reach out to yours and ask for help if you need it. There are many initiatives out there now offering support. Friends, neighbours, family members are also your community too.
Self Care
This feeling of a fresh start gives us a sense of hope for the future. Many people are feeling tired and fed up of restrictions, and of simply coping day to day. Some are labeling it ‘Pandemic Fatigue’. We need to remind ourselves that although this time is difficult and many of us are feeling stuck, we can use it as a time for rest, healing and self-care. Making time for you. A time to review and recharge, even if it’s only allowing yourself a soak in the bath with some bath salts or bubbles.
Are you managing to take care of yourself right now? It’s pretty hard for most, juggling working with home, looking after family who are in the house all the time. Mums are homeschooling and juggling jobs, Dads are trying to do the same. Or perhaps you are struggling with having no work and how you are going to move forward each day? Or perhaps you are alone? It’s a testing time for so many people in so many different ways.
The thing is, and I’m sure you’ve heard this before, is that if we don’t look after ourselves, we are not able to look after others. Plus,
‘The more you love yourself, the more your path fills with blessings, opportunities and abundance’, or so the saying goes. Positive thinking attracts positivity.
How to start a self care routine
So where do you start? Here are a few suggestions you could try:
- get up an hour early as a way of finding some ‘me’ time
- meditate or listen to a mindfulness app
- journal – write your ‘morning pages’
- write a gratitude list
- paint, draw, do something creative
- read a book
- do some stretching or yoga
- do some breathing exercises
- take a cold shower
- go for a walk or just spend some time outside in a green space
- have some quiet time before the rest of the house wakes up
Doing any one of these things will help you to ground and recentre and feel better for the day ahead. If time and space allow, you could create a little ritual for yourself every morning or evening (or both!). Creating a routine can help to give some purpose to the day and help you feel more motivated.
I’m available online
As you may expect, I am now holding consultations online, working from home and may continue to do so for the time being. At first I thought this might be limiting and feel less professional, but it has been rewarding and reassuring to find that several of my clients are still telling me that they feel they are heard and are receiving a good level of care. In fact, it’s rather nice to be working in a relaxed space and to be able to see my clients in theirs, particularly children who can come and go on screen and play with their toys.
If you would like to discuss how homeopathy might be helpful at this time, then please book in an FREE 30 minute call with me here. Or you can send me an email here.
